Empowering our Young People – free talk and mini workshop
September 26, 2013 @ 4:30 pm - 7:00 pm
In my work as a lecturer and life coach I’m often conscious of how the lack of self-confidence and self-esteem in individuals and indeed groups, inhibits their progress and effectiveness. There is much we can do as parents, teachers and mentors to improve this tendency and indeed help prevent it from happening in the first place.
We all have a story about who we are which most of us assume is fixed. In the past we had little evidence to counteract this view. Now however, scientists are making discoveries about the workings of our brains that shed light on how our personalities develop. This not only gives us the chance to explore the possibility of changing any aspects of our personalities that hold us back but also allows us to understand how we can most effectively support young people to develop character traits that will empower them.
This in essence, is what my talk and mini workshop will be about. It will incorporate some of the scientific findings I’ve referred to, give an overview of the options we have for utilising this knowledge and include a couple of exercises to start the process of improving our own performance and in turn the performance of those in our car
